MAKWERE OUT OF PARLIAMENT, CABINET

·

February 5 2010
DAILY NATION
MOMBASA, KENYA

Transport minister Chirau Mwakwere has lost his Cabinet and Parliamentary seats after a Mombasa court nullifies his election.

Mr Mwakwere had earlier arrived in court to hear the petition outcome while accompanied by his wife, children and two brothers.

Plain clothes policemen were deployed to keep the law. Public entry into the courtroom was stopped at 8.30am.

The petition was filed by voter Ayub Juma Mwakesi.

Mr Mwakesi wanted the election declared null and void, alleging that the entire exercise was marred by irregularities.

A by-election will now follow once the speaker issues writs to formally declare the Matuga seat vacant.

A case of good riddance. But why should the like of Mwakwere be allowed to occupy cabinet positions?

He was a selfless and performance oriented Minister in the current cabinet. Am sure Kenyans will miss His services , he even tried introducing fares at the Ferry in Likoni which shows His innovativeness .

Judges should start nullifying the election right from the top coz it was also marred by chaos. I know so many Honourable Members are shivering as at now. First Omigo Magara, then Mwakwere, whose is next?

This is the best news I have heard from our courts in a long time. Which Kenyan has not suffered on our roads, railways or waters because of Makwere's inefficiency? Hope the lectorate in that constituency will vote him out again if he ever tries to run for the same parliamentary seat.

Going by these comments, it seems poor Chirau was very unpopular. However, one lesson we can learn is that sometimes a powerful president can impose a leader on people.

Justice in the right direction for once in the history of Kenya... The next move should be that Michuki should hold Makwere's post in the interim so that the current matatu mess can be streamlined before someone else is appointed in that ministry.

He was overly arrogant, outrightly lazy and dismissive of kenyan needs, even as Kibaki just watched. He once said that Kenyans did not expect him to shoot himself in the foot by implementing the Michuki rules when he owned a matatu. His departure was long overdue.

Now, I think there are judges out there who can give fair rulings and this should be a challenge to the PSC. Now let us look for men of intergrity from whatever party who can do better work in the parliament and as people representatives. Kudos to the judge.

Just an interesting observation. Just why do public figures drag their poor wives and children when they getting shammed? We hear nothing about Mwakwere's wife and children but when he knows he is facing his waterloo, he drags her innocent wife and kids to share his shame.

The truth will come out Thanks Mr Hon. PM for your stand. Ongeri should also follow from this Ministry of Education

Now, this the News of 2010..am so happy for Mwakwere. He has always displayed hints of arrogance and today he has been humbled. Anyone remembers him stabbing words at Raila concerning the toilet? anyone remembers when he told the board of KAA to accept Muhoho or quit?..this is the proverbial rainy day!!

Finally a non-performer who messed up an entire ministry has gone. The president should have sacked him long time ago-but God has come to our rescue. The presdient should now move and appoint someone who will deliver. order in the matatu industry is paramount and move with speed before we lose lives through the ferries.
